Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 8, 2026
Muxbell is a local-first macOS app. It watches your tmux sessions on your own machine — that data never leaves it, and the app contains no analytics, ads, or tracking. The only thing it sends is an occasional license check. The website uses one privacy-friendly analytics tool (PostHog, EU-hosted) and only after you accept the cookie banner.
1. Scope and Controller
This policy covers both the Muxbell macOS application and the muxbell.com website. The data controller is Arbiter Technologies Ltd. (UIC 207164164), Prof. Krastyo Mirski Str., Bl. 10, Ent. A, Apt. 8, Sofia 1407, Bulgaria.
2. The Muxbell App
Muxbell runs locally on your Mac. To detect when an agent needs attention, it reads the state of your local tmux sessions on your device. That session content — what your agents print, your commands, and your terminal output — is processed only on your machine and is never transmitted to us. The app contains no analytics, advertising, tracking, or third-party crash-reporting SDKs.
What the app stores on your device:
- Your license key and trial state are stored in the macOS Keychain.
- App preferences and settings are stored locally on your device.
What the app sends off your device:
- License validation. From time to time, the app contacts our licensing provider to validate your license. That request includes your license key, an identifier for your installation/device, and the app version. As with any network request, your IP address is visible to the provider in transit. The legal basis is performance of the contract you entered into when licensing Muxbell (GDPR Art. 6(1)(b)).
- Payments. Purchases are handled by our payment provider acting as merchant of record. They process your payment and billing details under their own terms and privacy policy; we do not receive your full payment-card details.
3. The Website (muxbell.com)
When you visit muxbell.com, standard web-request data may be processed by our hosting and delivery infrastructure to serve and secure the site — this can include your IP address, browser and device information, the requested URL, referrer, and timestamps. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in operating and securing the website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)).
Google Fonts. The website loads fonts from Google Fonts, so your browser may connect to Google-controlled domains such as fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. Those requests may reveal your IP address and browser information to Google, which processes that data under its own policies.
Analytics (PostHog). We use PostHog to understand how visitors use the website (pages viewed, links and buttons clicked, basic browser and device information). PostHog is EU-hosted (Frankfurt, Germany), so this data is processed inside the European Union. It is loaded only after you accept the cookie banner; if you decline, no PostHog script is initialised, no events are sent, and no PostHog identifier is stored. When you accept:
- A pseudonymous visitor identifier is stored in your browser's
localStorageto tell returning visits from new ones. It is not linked to your name, email, or any account. - We process page URLs, page-load timing, automatically-captured interactions (such as clicks), and the click on the buy/download button.
- Browser, operating system, device type, language, screen size, and referring URL.
- Approximate location (country / region) derived from your IP address; the IP itself is not stored by us.
- Reports of unhandled JavaScript errors, so we can fix bugs.
We do not use session replay, heatmaps, surveys, advertising networks, or cross-site tracking. The legal basis for analytics is your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a) and the Bulgarian Electronic Communications Act implementing the ePrivacy Directive). See the Cookie Policy for how to change your choice.
4. Retention
Server and CDN logs are retained for a limited period for operational and security purposes, as configured by our hosting stack. License-validation records are kept for the lifetime of the license and as needed for anti-abuse and accounting. PostHog analytics events are retained on PostHog's EU infrastructure under its standard retention policy; the pseudonymous identifier in your browser persists until you clear your browser storage or withdraw consent.
5. Your Rights Under EU Law
You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to the processing of your personal data, and to data portability, subject to applicable law. You can withdraw your analytics consent at any time from the Cookie Policy page. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Bulgarian Commission for Personal Data Protection (CPDP) or with the supervisory authority in your country of residence. For any request, contact support@arbt.tech.
6. Children's Privacy
Muxbell is a developer tool and is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date.
